I saw this article on NYTimes India blog, India, What Did You Eat Yesterday?
Read through the interview with a bunch of folks from all social stratas. One common theme is they all seem to eat much better than ahem we do in America.
No overload of sugar in the morning for breakfast which tends to cause acute hunger mid-morning and leads to snacking and that leads to ... well you know where.
Indulge me please, What did you eat for breakfast yesterday and again this morning?
I had some oatmeal with yogurt and mango pickle yesterday and this morning -- banana peach smoothie and an omelette with two slices of whole wheat toast.
Your breakfast sounds relaly healthy, for us every morning it is one slice of homemade spelt bread and mostly i eat that with nutella, marmalade or chocolate with atleast 2 cup of black tea. So today it was same bread with nutella and tea and Hans was a slice of bread with one boiled eggs.
ReplyDeleteEggs are perfect breakfast items as they are filling and last till lunch time.
DeleteVery interesting article, Indo- thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteYesterday for breakfast, I ate a bowl of upma with some sev. Today I ate idlis with coconut chutney. Both are not typical breakfasts for me- these were leftovers from weekend guests.
Upmarket and idles are perfect for breakfast but weekdays there is just no time that they end up as lunch items from the previous day dinner.
DeleteYesterday was a croissant and a strawberry smoothie thing. Today was a queso pupusa.
ReplyDeleteQueso pupusa does sound delicious. Got to look that one up.
DeleteInsightful article Indo - thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeletePutting breakfast on priority list is something I've been working on this summer. My breakfast yesterday was Portuguese Bread with Scallion Cream Cheese and good old Chai.
Love your breakfast ideas....yesterday i had maggi in breakfast and today semiya upma.......
ReplyDeleteMaggie for breakfast? Never did that but as they are rich in carbs they can indeed be considered good breakfast.
DeleteToday mine is same as the auto driver, Amar Singh-- tea and Parle G :) Usually it is tea and some crackers or Marie. But then around 10 I eat fruits/smoothie/yogurt
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the Parle G cookies are definitely better than the sugary breakfast cereals isn't?
DeleteAm loving ur breakfast ideas, but seriously once i came here, i have literally stopped having our Indian breakfasts and will go for lazy breakfasts like smoothie, toasts and cereals.Obviously mine was blueberry smoothie with oats.
ReplyDeleteGenerally I have a bowl of oatmeal... rolled oats, a handful of raisins plus hot water. And decaf coffee with half-n-half. and i'm hungry again by 10.
ReplyDeleteI know happens to me too. So I carry carrots, fruits or some Indian biscuits for snack which take me to lunch time.
DeleteMine is usually oatmeal quickly cooked up in the microwave with milk, frozen fruits, almonds, walnuts and honey.
ReplyDeleteI love this :-)
These days, I eat soaked almonds, fruit and an egg if I feel like it. But I eat breakfast late, only at about 9 so by 10.30, am hungry again and crave something spicy. That's the problem time, if I get past it with healthy snacking, that's okay.
