Classic Plain Lassi

There are a lot of fancy recipes that we try once but don't think about it much after. But simple recipes we come back to them every now and then. This is one such recipe. I was first introduced to plain lassi when I was a child at my aunt's house. My uncle is a connoisseur of fine foods and my aunt is a fantastic cook. Whenever I hear the word lassi I think of them. I am not sure if plain lassi is a thing anymore because it is all about mango lassi. Getting mango pulp is very easy these days but until a few months ago I hadn't seen unsweetened mango pulp. The sweetened mango pulp is so sweet that you have to add a lot of yogurt/curd so it does not taste like you are drinking sugar water. Few months ago I discovered unsweetened mango pulp. The unsweetened mango pulp is so sweet on its own that no sugar is needed. It is only now I finally enjoy the taste of the mango in the lassi. I digress. If you don't have mango pulp handy, here is the classic lassi. It is more accessible than a mango lassi.

One other thing, how have you all been dealing with the lockdown? March is that time of the year that there is a lot of work in the farm, so we are out most of the day taking advantage of the nice weateher. The youngsters have been roped in to help which they have been doing. Our gravel road does not see many visitors so there is plenty of place to walk. On good weather days it gets quite a number of walkers.

Why am I saying this? It is good to have a regular exercise routine especially now. Being inside the house is not fun in the best of circumstances. Now that we are forcefully cooped in the house with family members for 24 hours of the day we have to find some sort of regular routine to keep fit. Fitness does not just help the body but it is required for the mind as well. For a lot of people finding a place to exercise is not possible because of all the restrictions in place but there are a lot of stretching exercises that can be done without going anywhere. In this situation youtube can be your friend. I personally like Esmonda White's Essentricsworkouts. Aging Backwards is not necessarily for old people :)

Exercise routines formed during these trying times will serve well for the future. Keeping fit and eating right is essential in this situation.

Now on to a really simple recipe for lassi,

Take the yogurt, sugar and ice in a blender and whip once and serve.

Nothing much to it.

Classic Plain Lassi
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Serving Size: 2 - 12 ounce glasses
Ingredients
  1. 2 cups of curd/yogurt (home made is better for making lassi)
  2. 2 tsp of sugar or honey
  3. a few ice cubes

Method
  1. In a blender take all the ingredients listed and either pulse a few times or give it one whirl and turn off.
  2. Pour into glasses and enjoy.

Nothing is as easy or tasty as this one. A glass of this lassi after some spicy foods is a good medicine to keep the insides from burning.
