Chocolate Burfi with Pecans

Things got a little hairy around Deepavali time and I had no time to do any blog posts. Not posting did not necessarily mean I did not make any sweets. I made this chocolate burfi with coarsely ground pecans and it was delicious. Unlike plain chocolate burfi which is usually in a soft melt in your month consistency I made these slightly chewy. With the addition of the nuts it gets some crunch.

If you'd rather have soft and fudge like burfis reduce the cooking time and they taste delicious as well. I used semi sweet baking chocolate. You can use semi sweet chocolate chips. The ingredients are all store bought so it gets made pretty quickly. I used pecans but feel free to use any nuts that you like.

In a sauce pan melt the chocolate. Add in the condensed milk.
Once the condensed milk is mixed in with the chocolate add the milk powder.
Add the nuts and mix into the chocolate. Cook the chocolate mixture so it comes together in a mass. Transfer the contents to a buttered pan to be cut into squares.

Cut into squares and enjoy.

Chocolate Burfi with Pecans
Preparation Time:15 minutes
Cooking Time:20 - 25 minutes
Ingredients
  1. 4 oz semi sweet baking chocolate bar
  2. 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  3. 1/2 cup milk powder
  4. 1 cup roasted pecans coarsely powdered
  5. 1 tbsp butter

Method
  1. Roughly chop the baking bar and set aside.
  2. Gently roast the pecans. I used a toaster oven to toast the nuts and then cool them and roughly powder them.
  3. In a sauce pan add the roughly chopped chocolate and let it melt.
  4. Add in the condensed milk and mix it into the chocolate.
  5. Add in the milk powder and whisk it in as you are adding it.
  6. On medium low heat cook for 5 minutes, for soft fudge stop here and add the powdered nuts, else continue to cook for another 10 -15 minutes. The mixture will move away from the sides. Add in the powdered nuts and drizzle the butter on the sides saving some for the pan.
  7. Apply butter to the cutting pan and transfer the chocolate contents to it.
  8. Use a blunt knife and cut into squares.
  9. Stays fresh non-refrigerator for 3 weeks.
