Wishing you all a very Happy Deepvalai! I bet most of you are having fun with an array of sweets and savories, colorful clothes and sparkling fireworks. Please spare a moment of thought for those away from home and who cannot afford to celebrate.
I set out to make Almond Burfi but ended up with Almond Halwa. Not bad you say. I thinks so too.

Deepavali is the festival of lights and is a celebration of the victory of good over evil. It is a very important festival for Hindus world over.
In India each region celebrates it slightly differently but in essence the same theme. In TamilNadu where I am originally from, we wake up before dawn, take an oil bath, wear new clothes and burst firecrackers. Sweets and Savory snacks are made and exchanged.
In the north it is called Diwali and in the South Deepavali.
