About

Started this blog to jot down recipes in a more permanent form than the bits of scrap paper in a binder. I got into cooking only after having moved away from home and missing the taste and texture of foods I had eaten for a long time. Along the way some wonderful friends shared their knowledge which they had gained from cooking alongside their moms. I still am very thankful to a friend who taught me how to cook sambhar. Having learned sambhar and brimming with confidence I moved on to sophisticated and more complicated dishes.

Being a very opinionated person the blog is a medium to share my opinions and ideas. Hence the name 'Daily Musings'.

Cauvery River

The Cauvery river and its slow deterioration has shaped my views on the environment. With ancestors who were farmers my mind is never farther from the river. From a vibrant clean river that I was familiar with during my childhood to the dirty polluted river of today, Cauvery is a fine example of environmental degradation.

Today, I am fortunate to be living near another majestic river - the Potomac. The Potomac river and the Chesapeake Bay continues to remind me everyday of how clean waterways and healthy fish populations are intertwined with the health and wealth of the people who populate the region.

My interests in the age old customs and traditions of the Kongu culture is also reflected in this blog.

If you are curious my day job involves working with computers and has everything to do with software.
